My Rating: 3. 5 stars

I have to be honest this one was a hard one for me to get through. The first half of the book felt like it dragged on and on and on with nothing really happening. The second half picked up in pace but still it was hard for me to get through, and having coming that far I powered through and finished the book. I can understand though why this book was so popular. It was very different from mystery books i’ve read previously, which i did like about it.

I’d heard about the book and then saw that a movie was being made a while later. The book had been on my TBR for the longest time. I finally got around to reading it. It took me awhile to finally finish reading it. I started back in December of 2025. Things got busy with work so I stopped reading altogether for awhile, moving on to shorter and easier things to read like manga. Then picked it back up in Janurary finally powering through and finishing it now.

What did i like about the book?

What I did like about the book was the depth the characters had in terms of personality, actions, etc. They were well written. One minute you’re feeling sorry for them. Rooting for them to succeed and then the next minute it’s revealed that they’ve done something that makes you change your mind. It stops and makes you think, reflect, on yourself, on wether or not you would still support someone who behaved this way. Do you behave that way yourself? Or is what they did compeletly deal-breaking, unforgivable.

What didn’t I like about the book?

For me the pacing was the biggest issue I faced, as mentioned earlier in this post the first half felt like a lot was happening but also that nothing was happening. A lot of filler and snail’s paced story movement. Then you get to the second part of the book and finally things start moving again, the ball is rolling, it’s gaining speed. Things are being revealed and you have that “Ah-Ha” moment. Either you called it or you didn’t.

Overall

I did enjoy the premise of the story, the way the characters were written. Which is why I gave the rating of 3.5 stars. The pacing of the story in the beginning, however, made it feel like a chore to read. I powered through to the end, I don’t like leaving things unfinished.
