Welcome to July’s Monthly Wrap Up!
How is it already August? July went by far too quickly. It feels like it only just started. The year is over halfway done now. I didn’t get as much reading as I hoped to do done again this month. The last week of July I was covering a coworker for overnight shifts where I work which threw off my usual routine and resulted in my being too tired to be able to concentrate on reading of any kind. I did finish a few books this month at least. Let’s get into the details of the month.

So far this year I have read 56 books out of the 200 book challenge I had set for myself which puts me at about 59 books behind to meet that goal. It’s starting to feel like I was far too ambitious and hoped for more energy this year to be able to read more.

TV
1) Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024- ) (Seasons 1 & 2)
I watched the animated version of this as a young adult when it first aired and multiple times since. The second season recently came out and it had occured to me that I hadn’t watched the first season yet. So I watched both. The first season seemed rushed and introduced characters and moments out of order from the animated series. It also didn’t have the charm that the animated series had. The second season we got to see more of the charm the animated series had as it slowed down the story a bit since we are focused on one specific story arc now, revolving around the city of Ba Sing Se. The introduction of Toph helped bring that charm back. The actress playing Toph has done a wonderful job bringing the character to life. The casting for the show is on point, and the costuming and special effects for this series are amazing. I’m definitely enjoying more than the unfortunate attempt at a live action movie back in 2010.
2) Two Broke Girls (season 1 Episodes 1-5) – Inbetween shows, I decided to put this on as I had watched it before and wanted to watch something I had seen before, before deciding on something I hadn’t seen before. I originally watched this show when it first started airing
3) The Boroughs (2026) – This was a very well done, and interesting show. Created by the same creators for Stranger Things I was excited for it.
4) Little House on the Prairie (2026) – This series is going to be very interesting. While I haven’t read the books. I feel like this version of the story is going to follow the book series more closely than the original TV show. This one starts us out with the Ingalls in Independence, whereas the original had them already living in Walnut Grove. It honestly made me want to read the books. I remember having a box set of all of them when I was kid but never did read them. I’ll have to add them to my TBR for next year.
5) Avatar: The Last Airbender (animated) – after watching the Live action Netflix seasons I wanted to rewatch the animated version (for the fourth time) to see what exactly they had changed, or if I had been misremembering the order in which certain events happened.
Anime
1) One Piece (Episodes 1051-1168)
I did it! I finally caught up to currently airing episodes. It took several months but at this point I found it to be absolutely worth it.
2) Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (season 2, episodes 5-10)
I finished catching up on this one once I finished catching up on what is currently available for One Piece. This series is one of my absolute favourites for modern anime. It is well worth watching. It’s going to be a long wait for season 3 though.
3) Witch Hat Atelier (season 1 Episodes 1-13) – I’ve heard a lot of great things about this anime. The art style is incredible. I’m very much invested in this story. I want to add the manga to my want to read pile and can’t wait for more for the anime.
4) The Water Magician (season 1, episodes 1-13) – My partner had watched this one and it sounded interesting. It was good but I was hoping for more.
5) Chihayafuru (Season 1 -3) – This one was a rewatch for me. It’s one of my absoluted favourite animes similar romance vibes that Fruits Basket has. Rewatching it also made me realize that the anime is incomplete. So I’ll need to get the manga so I can find out how the story concludes.
6) Fairy Tail (Season 1, episodes 1-20) -This is also a rewatch for me. It’s been a really long time since I last watched it and I realize I have yet to watch the sequel series The 100 Year Quest. So I’m rewatching this series first to refresh my memory on what happened in the main series before watching that.
Movies:
1) Ready Or Not – I had seen promotions for the sequel to this movie earlier this year. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood star in the sequel. Two of my favourite actors. So of course I needed to watch the first one. The moment I started watching it I remembered seeing trailers for it before it came out and that I wanted to watch it at some point. I had completely forgotten about it. It was really good. I’m not normally into slasher type horror but this was well done.
2) Ready or Not 2: Here I Come – As mentioned above this is the sequel to Ready or Not, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood. It picks up right where the first movie ends. It was also really well done.
3) Howl’s Moving Castle – This is one of my comfort movies. Watching it always makes me happy. It is in my top three Studio Ghibli movies. (Spirited Away is #1, Kiki’s Delivery Service is #3)
4) Imaginary (2024)- this is a supernatural horror movie. It sounded interesting but I didn’t enjoy it very much. It was okay but a lot of the acting was stiff and had a bizarre storyline.
5) The Devil Wears Prada – The sequel movie had recently became available on Disney+ so I had to rewatch this one before watching it. One of my favourite Anne Hathaway movies and of course Meryl Streep in this one is just Iconic. I think this movie was my first introduction to Meryl Streep. She of course had been a household name in my family. My dad often mentioned the movie Sophie’s Choice that she had been in as well. Still haven’t watched that one.
6) The Devil Wears Prada 2 – I found this one to be just as good as the first one. I’m really happy with how the story went.
Music
This month I made a new playlist with some of my favourite songs I’ve been listening to throughout the year. Primarily Hilary Duff, Em Beihold, Evanescence, Emei, EJAE, and Taylor Swift.
